The Batik Story

The art of batik is an integral part of the life and culture of the people in Bali.  An intimate knowledge of this centuries old practice makes them leaders in their craft.  The owners and designers,  that manufacture  and distribute these batik cottons have partnered with the talented artisans in a small village in Bali.  The unique designs are hand-dyed on the cotton base cloth.   One of the methods they use is to place wax in patterns on the fabric  to  resist the dye where the colour is not desired.  The wax is then removed with boiling water and the process is repeated as many times as needed to create the finished design.

The cloth is then dried outdoors in the sun to ensure a good dye set.  After a final quality inspection it is washed and rolled by hand on locally made bolt boards.  Finally it is packaged for shipping directly to Canada by sea.  Company owners contribute to the enrichment and development of the community they partner with.

Fairly traded and sweat free, the manufacturing of these beautiful batik textiles benefits and enriches the entire Bali island community in which it is created.
