Hello again.   A bit more about Nancy Hunt and The Master’s Pieces.

I am the owner of this multi-faceted home based sewing business.   I do the  purchasing of the fabrics  as well as the designing and production of all the batik products that are made for the wholesale and retail markets in both Prince Edward Island and  Atlantic Canada.  Also,  my studio/gift shop which is open during the summer months features my products, the batik fabrics and a selection of handcrafted works from local artisans that complement the batiks.

Sewing has always been a part of my life.  I remember the first sewing project  that I attempted.   It was  “sew on a button”,  a required skill as a member of a Brownie troop.   At the time, I recall it as being quite a challenge.  That was a lot of years ago.  I have taken a few  sewing  classes in school  since that time  but I am otherwise self taught and have always had a passion to create items with attention to detail and quality.   So, in 1995,  as a  stay-at-home mom with a much loved sewing hobby and a desire to create an additional family income,  I began the journey which has evolved into my business The Master’s Pieces.   It has been a challenging yet rewarding experience and one in which I appreciate all those who have helped and inspired me along the way and  in that same spirit, I also believe in giving back and sharing what I have learned.

The first of my original designs, was born out of a desire to make a unique and functional coaster as a birthday  gift  for my aunt, Elaine.  She was the  sewer who  inspired me  and got me started on my own personal quilting fabric “stash”.   Most of my first attempts at quilting were made from fabrics and ideas that she had shared with  me.     While creating  my aunt’s gift,  my own hands were experiencing discomfort and pain from arthritis and tendonitis.   The simple flat coaster  design was transformed into  “The Original Mug Cozy” © a comfort aid  to assist in carrying hot and cold beverages that I am  still producing today.  Other designs soon followed this one and each  had the same premise of ease of use, great function and of course great fabrics and construction.  As a juried member of the Prince Edward Island Crafts Council you can be assured that all my products meet a high quality standard.       (Please visit the Samples page, my blog catalog or one of the other links for more information   “The Original Mug Cozy” and other products.)

Recently,  I had a chance viewing of some  new fabrics I had not seen before.   I was so impressed by the  quality  of these  fairly traded,  hand-dyed batik cottons  that I switched to almost exclusively using  them in my production.    They  beautifully showcase both the traditional and contemporary designs.    I also decided to share them as well with other sewers and quilters and have made them available to purchase.
